Mike O'Brien's first available sculpture is a life sized Galapagos Tortoise.
Mike modeled this tortoise after one that was part of a group of tortoises brought to the Houston Herman Park Zoo in 1916. In the 1980s the group of tortoises was sent to other zoos. Tragically many of them died during a freeze at the Brownsville zoo.
O’Brien has commemorated the Galapagos tortoise in a life-sized bronze that preserves every detail of this ancient reptile. This sculpture goes beyond just being a likeness. It captures the stoic persona of a creature that has seen the world for so many years.
